Libraries

NCBF was started in 1983 by a small group of enthusiastic librarians who wanted to bring the wonder of children’s literature to as many children as possible. Over the years, and with their support, the festival has grown from two days to two weeks full of opportunities for children and families to engage with authors, illustrators and story tellers.

Librarians remain at the heart of NCBF and now form the Working Group, which is responsible for overseeing the management and delivery of the festival activity. The Working Group suggest and agree the authors and illustrators to be invited to the festival; help to plan and agree programme content for Gala Day; engage with local schools and groups for the school programme; involved with the successful delivery of all aspects of the festival.
