We are a very small independent charity with no connection with any larger charity or governing umbrella body.

We have a board of trustees with skills ranging from fundraising and strategy through to libraries and teaching.  The trustees meet four times a year to oversee the strategic management of the festival.

Libraries in the region are a key partner for NCBF.  To support this we have a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) in place with the Society of Chief Librarians (SCL) this clearly outlines each partners commitment – jointly and independently – to making the festival a success.

A Working Group with representatives from each of the region’s 12 library authorities meets once every two months to support the practical delivery of the festival.  This staff time is provided free of charge as in-kind support through the MOU with the SCL.  This group is chaired by a member of NCBF’s board of trustees and supported by the Festival Coordinator.

The range of invaluable expertise which is available through the board of trustees and the Working Group provides us with strong foundations enabling us to deliver our programme successfully and grow the festival’s reach into communities across the North East.
