Partners – Northern Children’s Book Festival

We work with a number of valued partners and supporters, who all help to support and promote the festival and our aims and objectives.

Libraries Connected is a significant partner for NCBF and has played a key role in both establishing and sustaining the festival, particularly through the contribution of staff time through local libraries.

NCBF and Libraries Connected have a shared belief in that strong literacy (in its broadest sense) gives individuals a wide range of life opportunities and gives them the confidence and skills to engage in their community economically, socially and politically. We believe that for many children, particularly in the North East’s most disadvantaged communities, reading, storytelling and access to high quality children’s literatures is simply not a part of their everyday family life. NCBF reaches these communities, inspiring children and their families to engage with reading and books, and to use libraries as an invaluable opportunity to access to a range of services and books with which they may not otherwise engage or be able to afford.In line with these we have a shared vision and belief that:
• libraries are a crucial resource for families, communities and schools and are placed strongly at the heart of local communities;
• NCBF is an invaluable event and adds significant value to the objectives of SCL at a regional and local level through reaching into communities and engaging and inspiring families and schools which may not engage with their local library services;
• the 32 year collaboration of the region’s library services supporting the delivery of NCBF is an example of partnership working at its best and this commitment should be at the heart of sustaining NCBF as an invaluable creative asset for the North East.

ASCEL – the Association of Senior Children’s and Education Librarians – is the national membership network of senior managers in children’s and young people’s public library services and school library services in the UK.

ASCEL North East members work in partnership with Northern Children’s Book Festival every year to deliver an inspiring, exciting and memorable festival for children and young people.

In 2014 ASCEL North East worked with young North East film maker Mani Kambo to produce a short film showcasing some of the brilliant author sessions that take place in libraries and schools during the festival. Funded by Bridge North East, the film captures the excitement and vibrancy of the festival which culminates in a fantastic Gala Day celebration. The film can viewed on the Home page.
